Before You Start
What do I need?
A 1080p webcam (a modern laptop camera is fine to start), a ring light or good natural lighting, and a stable internet connection with at least 10 Mbps upload. You also need a government-issued ID to verify you are 18 or older — every platform requires this before you can broadcast.
Which platform is right for me?
- Stripchat — large free-to-watch audience, token tips, easy approval. Good for beginners.
- Chaturbate — biggest cam site on the internet, huge organic traffic, token-based income.
- LiveJasmin — premium platform focused on private shows, higher per-minute rates, stricter quality requirements.
How much can I earn?
Beginners typically earn $500–$2,000/month in the first few months. Established models with a loyal fanbase earn $5,000–$20,000+/month across platforms. Income depends on streaming hours, engagement and whether you add extra revenue streams like fanclub subscriptions and custom content.
Sign Up on Stripchat
Step 1 — Create your account
Go to stripchat.com/signup/model ↗ and choose a username, email and password. Use a stage name — not your real name.
Step 2 — Age verification
Upload a photo of your government-issued ID (passport or driver's licence) alongside a selfie holding it. Stripchat reviews this within a few hours. You must be 18+.
Step 3 — Set up your profile
Add a profile photo, write a short bio and set your room topic. Enable Geo-blocking in Privacy Settings to prevent viewers from your country from finding you.
Step 4 — Go live and earn
Click "Go Live" from your dashboard. Viewers tip tokens during your public show. You receive ~50% of all tokens earned, paid weekly via bank transfer, Paxum or crypto. Set a visible token goal countdown — it motivates tipping and keeps viewers in the room.
Stripchat tips
- Stream at least 4–5 hours per session to get picked up by the algorithm.
- Respond to chat — engagement keeps viewers in the room longer.
- Use Spy Show to earn tokens from offline viewers during private sessions.
- Post a regular schedule — returning regulars are your biggest earners.
Sign Up on Chaturbate
Step 1 — Register as a broadcaster
Visit chaturbate.com/accounts/register/performer ↗. Choose a username, enter your email and password. Use a stage name.
Step 2 — Submit your ID
Chaturbate requires a scanned copy of your ID and a signed model release form. Review takes 24–48 hours. Once approved you receive a confirmation email.
Step 3 — Configure your room
Set your room subject, add tags that describe you, and configure your tip menu. Tags determine which category pages your room appears on — choose them carefully.
Step 4 — Start broadcasting
Click "Broadcast Yourself" or use OBS Studio for higher quality. Chaturbate pays 5 cents per token (viewers pay 10 cents — you keep 50%). Payouts weekly via cheque, wire transfer, Paxum or Cosmo Payment.
Chaturbate tips
- Use OBS or Streamlabs — better video quality makes a visible difference in your ranking.
- Create a clear tip menu: 50 tokens = dance, 200 = special request, etc.
- Run countdown goals: "500 tokens to reach goal" drives continuous tipping.
- Good tags = free discoverability. Chaturbate has massive organic traffic.
Sign Up on LiveJasmin
Step 1 — Apply as a model
Go to livejasmin.com/signup/model ↗. LiveJasmin has stricter quality requirements — your application includes a brief video quality check.
Step 2 — ID verification & quality check
Submit your government ID. LiveJasmin also evaluates your camera quality, lighting and background. 720p is the minimum; 1080p is strongly recommended. Poor lighting will get your application rejected.
Step 3 — Set your rates
LiveJasmin is built around private shows. You set your per-minute rate (typically $1.99–$9.99/min). Models keep 30–40% of gross earnings, but per-minute rates are significantly higher than token tips on free platforms.
Step 4 — Get ranked
New models get extra visibility during their first weeks — make a strong impression in this window. Payouts twice monthly via wire transfer or Paxum, minimum $50. The algorithm rewards models who are online consistently and receive positive ratings.
LiveJasmin tips
- Invest in proper lighting before applying — it is the single biggest factor in approval.
- Your profile photo drives click-through — use a professional-looking shot.
- Be available during peak hours (evenings UTC) when most viewers browse.
- Ask viewers to rate you after a private show — ratings directly affect your ranking.
- Activate Voyeur Mode to earn passive income while waiting for private show requests.
Privacy & Safety
Protect your real identity
Use a stage name on every platform. Never share your real name, city, workplace or personal social media. Create a separate email address and keep your creator persona completely separate from your personal life.
Geo-blocking
All three platforms let you block viewers by country. Enable this to prevent people in your home country from discovering your profile. It's free and takes 30 seconds to set up.
Watermark your content
If you sell videos or photos, watermark them with your stage name. This helps with DMCA takedown requests if your content is re-uploaded elsewhere without your permission.
Tax & legal
Cam model income is taxable as self-employment income in most countries. Keep records of all earnings. Every platform issues a 1099 (US) or equivalent tax form at year end. Consider speaking with an accountant familiar with creator income.
Platform Comparison
| Platform | Model cut | Show type | Best for | Payout |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Stripchat | ~50% | Public + private | Beginners, high traffic | Weekly |
| Chaturbate | ~50% | Public + private | High volume, organic reach | Weekly |
| LiveJasmin | 30–40% | Primarily private | Premium, higher per-minute | Twice monthly |
About Webcam Models
Are the shows actually live?
Yes. Every stream is happening in real time. The interaction between viewer and performer is live and unscripted. You can chat, tip and make requests during the show.
How long does it take to build an audience?
Most models see significant growth after 3–6 months of consistent streaming. A fixed schedule, an engaging personality and active social media presence (X/Twitter, Reddit) speed things up considerably.
Is camming a long-term career?
Many people have been camming full-time for 5–10 years. The main challenges are irregular income in the early months and the discipline required to work independently. Treat it like a business: keep records, set goals and build your brand beyond any single platform.
